Alex Gliddon
Alex Gliddon was born in Savannah, Georgia, and raised in Gulfport, Mississippi. He grew up with a deep love for the outdoors, sports, and competition, and that passion stayed with him his entire life. Baseball was his first love, and he spent years playing the game with a high-level feel and natural instincts that later carried over into slow-pitch softball, where he became an elite player known for his knowledge, toughness, and presence on the field. With a lifetime of playing experience and years of coaching alongside Melissa, Alex brought a rare mix of intensity, joy, and authenticity to the game. He believed athletes should be coached with both accountability and love. His coaching style emphasized cleaner fundamentals, smarter decisions, confidence under pressure, and most of all, enjoyment of the game. He had a gift for meeting athletes where they were, building them up, and making them feel seen, capable, and important. Outside of softball, Alex lived a full and hardworking life. He graduated from Harrison Central High School in Gulfport, Mississippi, and over the years worked many different jobs, always showing the same work ethic, grit, and servant heart in everything he did. He later earned his associate’s degree and worked in healthcare, where his own life experiences gave him a deep sense of empathy and compassion for others. Whether he was coaching, working, helping a friend, or loving his family, Alex was the kind of man who gave fully of himself. Today, Alex’s legacy lives on through Nightmare Fastpitch in the way the program is built: with heart, toughness, loyalty, and love for the game. His impact reaches far beyond wins and losses. It lives in the athletes he poured into, the standards he helped create, and the people who are still better because they knew him.
